Frequently Asked Questions:

1.     What is Sentry Predator Locator?

Sentry Predator Locator is a web site that allows you to see where registered sex offenders live in relation to you and your family. We offer a downloadable application for a one-time fee of $29.95. This application offers in-depth features such as email and cell phone text message alerts, as well as, a system tray icon (next to your computer clock), which not only gives sends you alerts, but you’ll also receive localized Amber Alerts. In addition, it offers advanced photo search capabilities including name, alias, address, zip code, height, age, gender, preference settings, radius settings from 1 to 100 miles. It also offers unlimited use from the privacy of your application and automatic updates.

2.     Is there a cost to use Sentry Predator Locator?

There is no fee to look up offenders and view maps using a 1.5-mile radius.  If you want to view other radius views (1 to 100 miles), keep track of sexual predators over a wider radius, as well as receive automatic alerts and updates, unlimited look-ups from the privacy of you own application, and have access to all the other features, it will cost a one-time fee of $29.95.

3.     How long has Sentry Predator Locator been available?

Sentry Predator Locator has been in production since November 15, 2005 and launched in May of 2006.

4.     Does Sentry Predator Locator contain registered sex offenders from every state?

We do. However, some states either do not provide address data or have multiple registries. These state updates usually take a longer time-period to update our data.

5.     What else does Sentry Predator Locator do?

Sentry Predator Locator can notify you by cell phone text message, email and by the tray icon on your computer, unlimited use, search using radius settings from 1 to 100 miles, automatic updates and much more.

6.     I live in an affluent neighborhood. Why do I need this service?

Sexual predators come from all lifestyles. We have read the articles of priests, rabbi’s, professional business people, and a member of Homeland Security. You never know.

7.     How will you notify me?

Our program notifies you in three ways: email, cell phone text message and from the application icon, which resides in your system tray next to the computer’s clock.

8.     Where do you get your data?

We get our data from all the public sex offender registries from all 50 states.

9.     Are there registered sexual offenders that are not in your database?

Yes. Since we rely on public available data, if a registered sex offender moves and does not report to the county law enforcement agency in which they reside, we will not have that new data. This also means that if there is a listing of an offender in your neighborhood and they move, they will remain on the map near you until they register in their new location.

10.         Why don’t all registered sex offenders have an exact address?

Some states only provide exact addresses for Level 3 offenders (the most likely to repeat their offense) and will provide an address very close for Level 1 or Level 2 offenders.

11.         On the Sentry Predator Map, what does it mean when you see Predators: 220\196 under the map?

It means that there are 220 registered sex offenders in your radius lookup and of that number, 196 have exact addresses.

12.         How often does Sentry Predator Locator update its data and how do I receive the updates?

The Sentry Predator Locator database updates 24/7 five days a week using a completely automated process. Whenever there are updates of predator information within you pre-selected location information, your tray icon will pop-up a message alerting you of the update and prompting you to click an update button.

13.         How does Sentry Predator Locator update its predator images?

Again, we use an automated process, which identifies any image updates from the state registries. When we populated our database, we used an image enhancing technology to ensure the best possible photo. At any time a new photo appears or an offender registers in a new location and has their photo taken, the program takes these photos and enhances them so we can have individuals double check and ok the enhancement.

14.         When I mouse over a diamond icon on a map to display a thumbnail of the predator, I sometimes         see 1of 20 > under the predator. What does this mean?

It means that there are 20 images within the one. To see all the images, click on the “ >” symbol each time to see another image. When you see multiple images within one single image, it generally means that all the predators are living in something like a halfway house.

15.         How do I see a predator’s complete details?

There are two ways to see all their information. One way is to click on the predator’s name, which will open a page that will display all available information or click on “List Predators” under the map and you will see the complete list of predators within the map. Click on a predator’s name to see their complete details.

16.         Do I also receive Amber Alerts?

Yes. We receive direct feeds from The National Center For Missing & Exploited Children and whenever they release an Amber Alert, we receive certain information which allows us to send out localized Amber Alerts. You will receive alerts by email, cell phone text message and through you Sentry Predator Locator Icon if you purchase the service. These alerts will be specific to where you live with a certain mile radius added on.

17.         What should I do if I know of an offender that is not in your database?

You should contact your local police or sheriff department. This probably means that the offender has not registered and is subject to arrest.

18.         If I have an offender living near me, what can I do to make them move?

You can be subject to a fine or jail time for harassing any registered sex offender. Our service is to help you identify sexual predators that might live near you. We do not condone any harassment or violence against these people. Please use our service as a tool only!
